Just over a third of Iowa’s school administrators will retire within thenext four years, which Iowa Department of Education Director Ted Stilwellcalls a looming school leadership crisis.The numbers are based on a statewide survey of school administrators.The retirement class of 2003 is encouraged by a pension benefit policy andStillwell is counting on legislators and the governor to adjust the benefitformula for school administrators.Retirement benefits for administrators is currently calculated based on theprevious seven years’ salary. The proposed change would only be based on theprevious three years.
