While congress and the president are still negoitiating over the spendingbills for the new fiscal year, Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says there’ssome good news from last year’s budget.Latham says for the first time in 39-years, the budget didn’t spend anySocial Security Trust Fund dollars. Latham says President Clinton is evenjoining the Republican view on protecting all of the trust fund.One of the spending bills approved by the U-S House for this yearappropriates one-point-two million dollars for the Methamphetamine TrainingCenter in Sioux City. Latham says it also includes money to buy equipmentfor law officers.Latham says the measure includes 25-million dollars to help pay forbullet-proof vests for rural law officers nationwide.
