Iowa would be a radically different state if plants didn’t grow here. Some say that’s a possibility in the decades ahead. Speakers on both sides of the global warming issue are holding an educational public hearing tomorrow in the House chambers of the State Capitol.Dorothy Paul, executive director of the Iowa Chapter of the United Nations Association, is organizing the hearing. She says some predictions indicate global warming could devastate the current farm-based economy of Iowa and we must diversify now.While many argue the concept of global warming is all bunk, Paul says it’s not just a fanciful figment of someone’s imagination.She says Iowans who want to ward off global warming can: use less energy, drive cars less, buy energy-efficient appliances, and plant more trees. The hearing is slated to run Saturday from 8:30 a-m until 5 p-m.
