Iowa weather records contine to fall as we approach the end of this millennium. National Weather Service forecaster Jeff Wallenfang says above-normal temperatures were the rule Monday across the state. He says everyone enjoyed temps about 25 degrees above normal.He says a ridge of high pressure air is hanging over Iowa and keeping things warm.Wallenfang says it’s the classic example of what people call an “Indian Summer.”Wallenfang works in the suburban Des Moines office and says each warm day from here on in is a possible record. Wallenfang says you should enjoy the short sleeves while they last as the cooler weather will move in this weekend.The record warmth ironically is hitting Iowa during severe weather awareness week. At least six Iowa cities set record highs Monday. Atlantic, Des Moines and Waterloo all hit 80 degrees, breaking records set in 1931. Mason City broke a 68-year-old record by hitting 78. Lamoni and Ottumwa broke 19-year old records by hitting 79 degrees.
