A woman may someday become President of the United States and a group rallying in central Iowa this afternoon hopes it’ll be sooner, not later. The highest-ranking elected woman in Iowa, Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson, is among the speakers at the event, called The White House Project. Pederson says women candidates are treated differently in the public eye.Pederson says Elizabeth Dole, who recently dropped out of the race for the republican presidential nomination, might not have had such a tough time from the media had there been other women running for the office.Pederson, a former food magazine editor from Vinton, says there’ll be many young Iowa women at tonight’s event who she hopes she’ll be able to connect with as a role model. The White House Project rally is slated for 5 p-m at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines. The project is billed as being a non-profit, non-partisan public awareness campaign that aims to mobilize women of all ages to participate in civic life.
