Every trooper in the Iowa State Patrol will soon have a new device to help accident victims. Sergeant Dave Garrison says 450 seatbelt cutters are going out to uniformed troopers. The cutters let a trooper quickly cut a seatbelt if someone is trapped in a car after an accident. He says troopers have used other methods to cut seatbelts. Garrison says the devices probably won’t get a lot of use, as there are very few cases where a person is trapped in their car by a seatbelt. He says the tools are nice to have just in case. The seatbelt cutters were donated to the patrol by the Pleasant Hill Elks club.
