One man’s dead, another was injured in an explosion at a tire plant in Des Moines earlier today. The chemical explosion happened just outside the Titan Tire plant in a loading dock area. Fire officials say a welder may have ignited a tanker truck. One man was burned beyond recognition in the explosion, another was injured. Thick, black smoke poured for the scene, which is on the east side of Des Moines. Titan is involved in a long-running labor dispute with striking union workers.
