The Iowa State Patrol and Department of Transportation issued a warning to motorists today to drive carefully during this holiday weekend. Officials brought two life-flight helicopters, an ambulance and several patrol vehicles to an off ramp on Interstate 80 to give motorists a reminder that the holiday can turn dangerous. Trooper Scott Bright says the biggest message to travelers is to watch your speed. He says the number of vehicles on the road increases the chances of an accident.Bright says 84 extra troopers will be on duty during the holiday and they’re ready to pull over and ticket anyone with a lead foot. Bright says they expect the most traffic tonite and then Sunday as people return home.Airports are also jammed today. Duane Haataja (hot’-ee-uh) is director of aviation at Mason City’s airport. He says you should leave early to ensure that you don’t miss your flight.
