Man dies after falling from tower

An eastern Iowa man died after falling off a telecommunications tower in Benton County on Wednesday. 29-year old Daniel Ross of Cedar Rapids was working on the tower northwest of Urbana. He started climbing down the 120-foot tower and got halfway down when he fell. Ross was flown to a Cedar Rapids hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Benton County Sheriff’s department says it was Ross’ first day on the job, but he had undergone safety training and was wearing safety equipment.
