Iowans are urged to turn in their old eyeglasses so that other people may see through them. A national eye care chain with eight Iowa stores has launched its annual holiday drive for people to bring in their old sets of specs for the “Give the Gift of Sight” campaign.Lynn Pike is general manager of a LensCrafters store in Des Moines. The campaign is in conjunction with the Iowa Lions Clubs which have collected eyeglasses for several years. Pike says the glasses collected from Iowa stores may end up in Somalia, Columbia, Haiti or other developing nations as part of the mission.Iowans who have unusual prescriptions may not think their glasses will be of value to anyone else, but Pike says that’s NOT the case. She says no matter how weird someone’s prescription may be, someone else out there has the same eyesight problem and could use the glasses.LensCrafters has stores in: Des Moines (2), Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, Dubuque, Davenport and Omaha.
