The second in Governor Vilsack’s series of budget hearings was held last night in Waterloo. Several state legislators questioned Vilsack during the hearing about his proposed budget cuts.Vilsack, Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson & several other top officials talked with residents on a variety of topics. Vilsack says the issue of sentencing reform and the overcrowding of some county jails is a concern.Some residents voiced concerns about growing troubles with drugs. Vilsack says methamphetamine IS effectively being tackled in Iowa.State representative Mike Jager of La Porte City says the legislature is prepared to work on getting Iowans a tax cut next year.Vilsack plans to hold more hearings on the budget and other issues tonight in Davenport, tomorrow night in Iowa City, and later this month in Council Bluffs, Sioux City and Des Moines.
