Iowans have responded to a request from the Governor’s office for home-made Christmas tree ornaments by sending in nearly one-thousand. Governor Vilsack’s Director of Administration, Elisabeth Buck, says they made the call for ornaments after realizing they had two seven-foot trees and nothing to spruce them up with. Buck says the ornaments are made out of all sorts of Iowa materials, from corn to pheasant feathers. She says there is even an ornament with the governor’s face on it made by a quilter. That ornament is shaped like a cube and has several Iowa features, such as the new state slogan and the state seal. The ornaments will decorate the two trees that are placed in the governor and lieutenant governor’s formal offices. Vilsack and Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson will hold a reception Friday afternoon to honor all those who sent in ornaments.
