The first-ever clinic to offer abortions in the Quad City area opened for business at ten o-clock this morning, amidst a peaceful protest. Bettendorf Police Sergeant Steve Brower says the cold drizzle brought the only real problem during the protest — parking violations.Sergeant Brower says he saw how messy demonstrations can get by watching T-V coverage of the World Trade Talks in Seattle last week. Brower says he was very pleased today’s protest outside the new Planned Parenthood clinic was “anti-climactic” — that’s just how he likes them.Brower credits both the clinic’s officials and members of the anti-abortion groups for their cooperation. An anti-abortion group, The Life & Family Coalition, plans to build an educational center across the street from the new clinic.
