The state D-O-T has released its annual list of Iowa’s most dangerous intersections. The list ranks locations according to the number of crashes and the severity of the wrecks. Ian MacGillivray director of the D-O-T’s Engineering Division, says the worst locations are eligible for funding to develop safety improvements under the Iowa Traffic Safety Fund Program. MacGillivray says it’s encouraging to look over the progress shown through several years of these lists.MacGillivray says the cities and counties that contain the most dangerous intersections may be able to make moderate changes that save lives and thousands of dollars in vehicle damage.More than 40 of the top 100 worst intersections are in the Des Moines area. In the top 20 — 14 are in the Des Moines area, as well as: two in Davenport, two in Sioux City, and one each in Cedar Rapids & Council Bluffs.
