A Des Moines hospital has installed a new high tech-ecurity system to keep track of newborn babies. Mercy Medical Center Security Director Tony Biancalana says babies are fitted with a bracelet tag that can be tracked as it sends signals back to a computer.Biancalana says the tag will trigger an alarm if the baby is taken out of the nursery area or if someone tries to cut the tag off. He says there’ve not been any cases of stolen babies at Mercy, but the hospital is being proactive in preventing it from ever happening. There’ve been 37-hundred babies born at the hospital thus far this year. Biancalana says the system works without being intrusive to parents or hospital staff.Biancalana doesn’t know of any other hospital using this specific technology for tracking babies.
