Students in a western Iowa school district are getting a three-day weekend, but many may not feel up to enjoying it. The superintendant of the Ar-We-Va district is calling off school Monday due to an outbreak of the flu. Superintendant Leonard Griffith says the flu has hit dozens of students with as many as 50 students affected today, or 20-percent of the kids. Griffith hopes the three-day weekend will slow the spread of the flu.Griffith says it was his decision to call off school Monday.Giffith says the warm weather gives him a little room in the calendar to take the day off. He says they haven’t had any snow days yet, so they can take the day off without making a big impact on the school calendar. The Ar-We-Va district includes the towns of Aracadia, Westside and Vail in Crawford and Carroll Counties of western Iowa.
