If the clouds blow away tonight, you may be able to get a good look at the moon — a look not seen in decades. Experts say the moon is closer in its orbit to the earth than it’s been in 133 years, which will make it appear to be larger and brighter when it’s full tonight.University of Iowa astronomy professor Steven Spangler encourages people to get out and take a look at the bright white orb tonight. He says professional astronomers may NOT be clammoring for the unusual view because the moon will be so very bright and that doesn’t make the best viewing from a telescope. Many rumors are floating about tonight’s view of the full moon. Spangler says the earth is NOT any closer to the sun, making the reflected light brighter. While many people attribute the full moon to people going a little nutty, Spangler says the only real effect the moon has on the planet is effecting the ocean. Tonight’s high tides are expected to be unusually high.
