Four grocery stores in central and northeastern Iowa are accused of violating child labor laws. U-S Labor Department spokeswoman Norma Conrad says three of the stores are part of the Dahl’s (dolls) chain in Des Moines where young staff members worked too many hours and in dangerous jobs.The stores face tens of thousands of dollars in fines due to the alleged violations. Conrad says a fourth store is accused of similar violations — Moore’s I-G-A in Postville.Conrad, who works out of the Labor Department’s office in Kansas City, Missouri, says the stores can appeal the department’s ruling.The Dahl’s chain is being assessed 28-thousand-800 dollars in fines while the Moore’s I-G-A was assessed 15-thousand-600 dollars in civil penalties.
