Anyone entering the Hawkeye State on a highway or interstate will soon be greeted by new welcome signs. Department of Transportation crews will start putting the big reflective signs on the poles this morning. Dena Gray-Fisher, spokeswoman for the Iowa D-O-T, says there’ll be 67 of the signs placed at all of the state’s gateways. They replace the old “Iowa, You Make Me Smile” signs. Gray-Fisher says the new slogan, “Fields of Opportunities” is prominently displayed on the new signs. The signs cost more than 36-thousand dollars to make. The highway signs measure seven-by-eight feet while the interstate signs are 14-by-16 feet.
