The city of Newton is celebrating the millennium with a time capsule that’ll be sealed New Year’s Eve, and opened in 50 years. Newton millennium committee spokesman Curran Cotton says the capsule is special because of the involvement of the young people in the community.Fourth, fifth and sixth graders will load the capsule and they’ve also pledged to come back to open the capsule on New Year’s Eve 2050. Cotton says the capsule contains items from 50 different sources in Newton.The capsule will be placed in the atrium of the Newton City Hall until it’s opened in 50 years.
