A Davenport-based packaging company is consolidating operations in another state & moving jobs to Iowa. Packaging Technologies makes & distributes boxes, foam, bubble wrap, labels and other packing products. The company, formerly known as KartridgePak, is closing a plant in Atlanta, Georgia. Clayton Lloyd is director of Davenport community economic development. He says the company is keeping 184 jobs in Davenport and moving 35 jobs from Atlanta to Davenport. Several months ago, city leaders made a half-million dollar loan to a cabinet-making firm which went bankrupt shortly after receiving the money. Because of that, some fear loaning Packaging Technologies 300-thousand dollars for this move. Company president Barry Shoulders says city leaders shouldn’t be afraid as the company is sound financially.Davenport is also pursuing more than a half-million dollars in state grants to build roads and other services to the plant’s location.
