It’s debate season in the presidential campaign — with five debates in the next six days. There’s Saturday’s face-off between democrats Bill Bradley and Al Gore set in Iowa — and a debate is set this evening in New Hampshire. Bradley insists that debates, though, are NOT major events in the campaign.Bradley says he prefers town meetings in which he has dialogue with voters. He says that connection is important with all the skepticism in the political process.Bradley, however, sees the debates as a break-through opportunity.Bradley spoke by phone this morning with Iowa reporters. On Thursday, Republican candidates debate in New Hampshire, then the six G-O-P candidates debate again on Friday in South Carolina. Here’s the rest of the debate schedule before Iowa’s Caucuses: January 10 — Republicans debate in Michigan; January 15 — Republicans debate in Iowa; January 17 — Democrats debate in Iowa.
