Iowa’s Community College system is looking back on a successful decade of growth. Officials say enrollment in the state’s 15 community colleges bounded about 29-percent.Klark Jessen, a spokesman for the state Department of Education, says there are many factors that helped the community college system expand. Such as the increasing importance of the colleges in preparing students for four-year colleges.Jessen says about 93-percent of last fall’s community college students were Iowa residents and a little over half attended full-time.Jessen says 72-percent of Iowa high school students go on to seek some form of higher education, be it community or four-year colleges.
