The father of a murdered Monticello woman says he is happy that a civil trial has led to a six-million dollar settlement. 23-year-old Travis Jemison of Monticello was acquitted in the death of Kathy Jo Bolken in a 1997 criminal trial. Bolken’s father, Dean Cox, says the civil verdict is important as it labels Jemison as the murderer of his daughter.Cox believes the family will never collect all of the six-million dollars, but he says the verdict will teach Jemison a valuable lesson.Cox filed the civil suit on behalf of his 9-year-old grandson seeking damages for the loss. The criminal trial required a unanimous decision from the jury, while the civil trial required only a majority decision for the judge to issue a ruling.
