Members of two anti-gun groups will be in Des Moines today, lobbying legislators on what they’ve dubbed “Gun Violence Awareness Day.” Jeremy Brigham is a member of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence. He supports a proposal from Governor Vilsack that’d require all guns sold in the state to have trigger locks.Brigham and members of his Cedar Rapids-based group will be joined by members of Quad Citians for Responsible Gun Laws. Brigham says he’d like to see an education campaign waged statewide to drive home the risks involved in owning and storing firearms.Brigham expects a warm reception at the state capitol from members of both political parties.He says a survey found that over the past six years, Iowa recorded more than 13-hundred gun deaths.
