State legislative leaders have sent a letter to Maytag Chairman Lloyd Ward to encourage him to keep the appliance company’s headquarters in Newton.Speaker of the House Brent Siegrist says they don’t want rumors that Maytag will move its headquarters to turn into reality.Governor Vilsack has already sent a letter to Ward. Siegrist says lawmakers talked with the governor and he thought it was a good idea for legislators to send the letter.A New York business analyst reportedly has had extensive discussions with top Maytag executives about the possible move. Maytag was founded in Newton 107 years ago.
