Sixteen elementary students in Ames were taken to the hospital today after being overcome by a spray used in their art class. Deputy Superintendant Ray Richardson says a spray sealant used by the students caused itchy eyes, headaches and sore throats. The students were all treated at the hospital and later released. Richardson says the sealant is commonly used in schools.Students may have sprayed too much of the sealant on their projects. Firemen aired out the room and classes at Kate-Mitchell Elementary School were not canceled.
