Iowa is participating in a test program by the U-S Army that seeks to get more college-age men and women to enlist. Army recruiter Sergeant Robert Schrodt says the “College First” program encourages recruits to go to college before they begin their army service. One version of the program would pay recruits 150 dollars a month while they’re in college. Schrodt says many young people don’t want to miss out on the college experience by going straight into the army.Schrodt says the college courses could even prepare a recruit so they require less military training once they go on active duty. He says “College First” is a three-year test program.Schrodt says anyone interested in the program should contact their local army recruiter.
