Race track may be coming to Waterloo

The Waterloo city council has given The National Cattle Congress the green light to build a three-eights mile stock car race track on the site of the old Waterloo Greyhound Park. The planning and zoning commission voted last week to require the track be asphalt. N-C-C General Manager Judy McVey says they would rather keep their options open. She says there are more dirt racers in the county than asphalt. Residents in the neighborhood do not want the race track built. Waterloo Mayor John Roof says now it is up to the Cattle Congress to make it succeed. He says there’s been a record of failures at the track and he would like to see it turned around. The track could be completed by the spring of 2001.
