Enrollment at all three of Iowa’s public universities is up for the spring semester. The University of Iowa’s enrollment has grown about seven percent since the statewide slump in the mid-90s with the number of students now nearly 27-thousand. U-of-I senior associate registrar Kathryn Pietrzyk says there are several reasons for the growth, including more students going straight from high school to college..The University of Northern Iowa has seen the largest PERCENTAGE increase since 1995. U-N-I enrollment has grown 11 percent to nearly 12-thousand-800 students. Iowa State University has seen six percent growth with more than 24-thousand-300 students. The U-of-I’s Pietrzyk says the state’s universities have plenty to offer.Pietrzyk says the U-of-I’s College of Business has seen the largest gain in student enrollment at the Iowa City institution. She says the University of Iowa’s enrollment is about 67-percent Iowans, 27-percent students from other states and six percent students from foreign countries.
