Iowans with homes hooked to MidAmerican Energy Company electric lines will get rebate checks in the mail later this year. MidAmerican spokesman Kevin Waetke says the rebate is part of a two-year old pricing plan. When the company has a good year financially, customers get a credit. Waetke says a couple of key factors let the company enjoy a profitable year. The mild weather allowed the company to sell excess energy to other companies, and there were fewer storms requiring repairs to power lines. He says 15-million dollars in rebate money will go to the company’s 500-thousand Iowa customers.Waetke says the people who paid the most for electricity in 1999 will get the biggest rebate checks. He says only two-point-two million was paid out in rebates in 1998 as repair costs were higher and the utility wasn’t able to sell as much energy to other utilities.
