The Iowa Department of Elder Affairs is looking for Iowa residents who’ve reached the century mark for inclusion in a special publication. The book is called the Iowa Centenarian Registry and it’s all about people who’re at least one-hundred years old. Elder Rights Division administrator Maryanne Young says some people are surprised by how many Iowans have made it into triple-digits — there are more than 800.The oldest Iowan is Jessie Mae Kettering of Lake View who is 112. Iowa’s oldest man is Frank Ahmann of LeMars who’ll turn 111 in May. Through her job, Young says she’s been able to meet many Iowans who are at least 100, many of whom have shared some of their secrets of longevity.Young says the registry simply aims to honor Iowa’s elders. Everyone who makes the book will get a special certificate and be invited to the Governor’s Conference on Aging in May. Info? Call (515) 281-8530.
