Expert says don’t pay IRS with credit cards

Federal taxes are due in less than two months and many Iowans might be considering using their credit cards to pay the I-R-S. The Director of Consumer Credit of Des Moines says using your plastic to pay taxes might not be such a good idea.Tom Coates says adding your tax bill to your credit card also adds more interest to the bill and could get you into a deeper hole.He says paying with a credit card can lead to bad saving habits.Coates says Iowans should look at what they have spent on the credit card throughout the year, and looking back will help them determine how wise it will be to use the credit card on their taxes.Federal taxes are due April 15th.
