Iowa State takes over lead in Big Twelve Conference

The 14th ranked Iowa State Cyclones grabbed sole possession of first place in the Big Twelve Conference coming from 11-points down to win 64-62 last night at Kansas. Kansas hit a three point shot with one-point-five seconds remaining to cut the ISU lead to 63-62. But Paul Shirley hit one free throw after being fouled on the in-bounds play. He missed the second and the Cyclones rebounded the miss and time ran out. Texas upset conference co-leader Oklahoma State 68-57 to leave ISU all alone in first place. It’s the first time since 1982 that the Cyclones have swept the season series with Kansas. It’s the first win over a ranked team in a road game since 1987. Marcus Fizer led ISU with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jamaal Tinsley, Michael Nurse and Paul Shirley all had 12 points. Iowa State is now 10-1 in the conference and 22-3 overall. The win comes on reports that Iowa State is being investigated by the NCAA for possible rules violations in the program. ISU Coach Larry Eustachy says the investigation will show the program followed the rules.
