The engineering college deans from the University of Iowa and Iowa State University are teaming up as ambassadors for their field this week. The two are making a series of stops in Iowa to promote engineering during National Engineers Week. The two college sports rivals have paired their engineering schools on several projects, like in biomedical imaging.Pam Reinig is a spokeswoman for the I-S-U College of Engineering. She says there are many facets to being an engineer, in fields including: civil, computer, electrical, architectural, genetic, aerospace and more.She says there are three-million engineers working in the U-S, making it the nation’s 2nd-largest profession, behind education and just in front of nursing. She says Iowans may not know the many benefits that come from having two big engineering institutions in the state.Both deans, James Melsa of I-S-U and Anthony Hines from the U-of-I, will give joint presentations to civic groups this week in: Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Des Moines, Marshalltown, Muscatine and the Quad Cities.
