A nearly year-long investigation has led to an arrest in a double murder case in Iowa City.Iowa City Police have charged 24-year old John Lee Memmer with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Laura Dalton and Maria Lehner. The bodies of the women were found in their burning Iowa City appartment building last March. Iowa City Police Chief R.J. Winkelhake says the large amount of evidence delayed the investigation.Johnson County Attorney J. Patrick White says the destruction of the crime scene by the fire made it difficult to gather evidence. But, he says they have enough evidence to charge Memmer.Memmer is being held in the state pennitentiary at Fort Madison on a previous charge for burglarizing the apartment building where the two women died. Memmer will make his initial court appearance on the murder charges Wednesday.
