Republicans have rejected the Governor’s idea of requiring trigger locks on any gun sold in Iowa. Representative Clel Baudler, a republican from Greenfield, says trigger locks aren’t the answer to keeping guns secure. Baudler says if parents don’t take responsibility for keeping the gun secure, then it’s feel good legislation that means nothing.Baudler, who’s a retired state trooper, says a better idea is to give Iowans a tax credit for the purchase of a heavy-duty gun safe. Baudler says he has a nine-year old grandson that could twist off a trigger lock with pliers.Baudler says the major gun manufacturers now include trigger locks in all new guns. A bill to require trigger locks on all guns sold in Iowa was not debated in the House Judiciary Committee yesterday, the deadline day for action on the bill.
