The Executive Director of the Iowa Civil Liberties Union is denouncing a proposal by leaders of the Iowa Senate to display the Ten Commandments in the Senate chamber. Ben Stone says there is a misconception that the Ten Commandments are simply rules.Stone says a religious document has no place in a state building. Stone says politicians have have no right to tell people what to believe. He has no problem with the Senate posting non-religious guidelines.Stone says lawyers with the American Civil Liberties Union have won all lawsuits across the country involving the posting of the Ten Commandments in public buildings. The Speaker of the Iowa House refused to answer reporters’ questions about the issue yesterday, saying has other priorities.
