Former U-S Senator John Culver’s traveling the state this week, but it’s no political campaign. Culver is on a book tour, touting a biography he’s co-authored: American Dreamer — The Life of Henry A. Wallace. He says it’s the first full one volume biography of Wallace’s life.Wallace was Franklin Roosevelt’s Vice President. Wallace, the scientist, is credited with development of hybrid seed corn while led to the worldwide “green revolution.” Wallace, the journalist, was editor of “Wallace’s Farmer,” the most important farm journal of its day and later, he was editor of “The New Republic.” Culver came up with the title “American Dreamer” to describe Wallace. Culver started writing the book in 1988, but says the original dream of writing the book came in 1965 when Wallace died.Culver represented Iowa in Congress and the U-S Senate. He will visit 10 Iowa cities in five days to promote the book.
