An Iowa D-N-R report estimates gasoline prices will continue to rise to as high as a dollar-80 a gallon this summer, no matter what OPEC nations decide to do with production. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says there’s little that can be done to stop the supply-and-demand economics of what’s happening.Grassley introduced legislation Monday that would require the President to cut off foreign aid and arms sales to members of the OPEC nations. Grassley says the U-S hands those countries 415-million dollars a year in aid.Grassley is renewing his call for the President to tap into the petroleum reserve. OPEC nations are scheduled to meet March 27th to determine if oil production will be increased, which would eventually lower prices here, but not for many months.A vote is expected in the U-S Senate Finance Committee this month to cement a wide-ranging trade deal with China. Committee member & Chuck Grassley says he’ll vote -FOR- expanded relations with China, agreeing with U-S Ag Secretary Dan Glickman, that it’d be good for American farmers. The trade deal would open a wide range of new markets between the U-S and China, from agriculture to telecommunications.Voters in 16 states are casting their ballots for presidential preferences on this Super Tuesday, which Grassley predicts will effectively end the primary race today. Grassley, a republican, sees George W-Bush and Al Gore coming out the victors who’ll face off in November. Grassley says the primary process has been a plus for his candidate, George W. Bush as it has toughened him up for the general election.Grassley says Bush is now a much stronger and more effective challenger for Gore. Bush is favored in at least seven of the 13 Republican contests. John McCain says he has plenty of money and plans to stay in the race no matter what happens today.
