Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor is making a special appeal to retired Iowans who could be crucial to the Census count of the state. Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson is honorary chairperson of the Census 2000 Iowa effort, and she says counting every Iowan is crucial, as the official census population count helps determine how much federal spending flows back to Iowa. Pederson says in 1990, Iowa was the second-best state at returning the census forms.Iowa may lose a Congressional seat based on the new Census population count.Every household will receive a Census form by April 1st. Pederson urges Iowa’s newest residents — immigrants and refugees — to fill out the form, as it’s confidential and none of the information can be shared with any law enforcement agency.
