The boys state basketball tournament featured an upset in the opening round of class 2-A. Rock Valley managed only 16-points in the second half of play but scored 19 in the four minute overtime to stun fifth ranked North Polk 58-56. It was a defensive battle the entire game and free throw shooting was a key. Rock Valley hit 12 of 14 free throws in the overtime. Marcus Leloux (le-lux) had ten of his game high 24 points in the overtime. Leloux said free throws were a key in a game dominated by defense.Rock Valley had six losses during the regular season but Leloux says a tough schedule helped prepare them for the tournament.North Polk coach Jack Christensen said Rock Valley did what neither team could do late in regulation — get the ball and the lead.Christensen says easy baskets were rare in this game.
