A Boone business plans on hosting a big snowmobile racing event this weekend despite the warm weather and lack of snow. There hasn’t been any measurable snowfall in Iowa for weeks, but the operators of the Seven Oaks Recreation Area say they’ll have enough snow to host the World Snowmobile Association Snocross event Friday and Saturday. Organizer Joel Bryan says they put in a lot of extra work stockpiling any snow they could back in February. Bryan says they’ve also had their snow-making machines running constantly the last several days to add to the stockpiled snow. He says they’ll have to use an extra 500- to 750-thousand gallons of water to make up for the lack of natural snow.He says there were some doubts about the event when the weather turned unseasonably warm. Some 250 snowmobile riders are expected to race on the course over the two days.
