An Iowa City man that requires a ventilator to breathe finds himself with an uncertain future as his medical insurance runs out. 26-year old Ken Kendall wants the state to pay for his in-home care after his insurance runs out at the end of the month. The state says it will only pay if Kendall moves into a health center. Kendall says moving into a nursing home appears to be his only option.State officials say they can’t comment on the case, but do say they’ll pay for Kendall’s care if he moves into a health center in Urbandale or Mason City. Kendall says it would cost less if he could hire someone to care for him at his home.Kendall says the Governor’s office is trying to find a private insurance company that will accept him. If they can’t find an insurance company, Kendall says he doesn’t know what will happen March 31st.Kendall says the state has offered to pay four-thousand dollars a month for in-home care, but he says that’s not enough to hire a nurse.
