Shoes used to push point of gun control group

Two Iowa-based anti-gun groups are staging what they call a “silent march” at the state capitol today. While organizers say there’s no actual marching, there are lots of shoes.John Johnson, the president of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence, says there are 220 pairs of shoes representing the 220 Iowans killed by gunshot wounds in a typical year. According to Johnson the goal of the display, which will be in the capitol rotunda until 2 p-m, is to bring attention to the problem of gun violence.Another group, Quad Citians for Responsible Gun Laws, helped collect the 440 shoes. Johnson says the collection of symbolic footwear will go on display later this year with shoes from all 50 states at the Democrat and Republican National Conventions.Johnson’s group supports Governor Vilsack’s call for a trigger lock bill, which is still up for debate in a state House committee.
