One of House Speaker Brent Siegrist’s promises has been scaled back as the G-O-P seeks to trim the state budget. Late last year, Siegrist said the state should give libraries the money to buy computer software “filters” which screen out pornographic sites on the Internet. Many libraries offer Internet access, and Siegrist says the legislature will force librarians to either monitor Internet use or install the filters — but no money’s attached to the mandate. Siegrist says the bill will at least make the libraries come up with a specific policy on Internet security.Siegrist, who’s a republican from Council Bluffs, says no library computer should be a free gateway to Internet porn.
