Governor Tom Vilsack is accusing some legislators of trying to sneak through a tax change for the makers of smokeless tobacco. The Iowa House last week approved a bill which would tax all “snuff” at the same rate. Today, the better the smokeless tobacco, the higher the tax. Vilsack says the House is sending the wrong message to teens since also last week the House voted against taking drivers licenses away from teens caught for a third time trying to buy cigarettes.Vilsack hopes the Senate insists on taking driving privileges from underage smokers.
