We’re well into spring, but some Iowans can expect flurries to fly later today, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The state climatologist says it’s normal to have snow in Iowa during April. Harry Hillaker says 1955 was the last time Iowa didn’t have snow during April. He says snow can come much later too.Northwest Iowa had up to ten inches of snow May 27 in 1947, while flurries fell June 4th in 1998. Hillaker says April 15th is the average last day of snowfall for the central part of the state. He says March ended up being a much warmer month than normal. The past month was nearly eight degrees warmer than normal. Hillaker says it was also a very dry March he says statewide percipitation averaged just over an inch.He says indications are the warmer, drier weather will continue with the strong possibility of a drought ahead during the spring and summer months.
