Iowans who are concerned they may have an alcohol problem can get a confidential screening at any of nine locations across the state today. The free, anonymous screenings are part of National Alcohol Screening Day.Alan Zaback is a substance abuse counselor at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. He says this screening day offers an important step in helping people get a handle on dependency and he assures everything is done confidentially.Studies find one in every 13 adults in the U-S has an alcohol disorder. Zaback says participants in today’s screenings will be able to watch an educational video, read brochures and talk one-on-one with a health care professional. He says the first step is filling out a self-test.The free screenings are being held in: Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Chariton, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Iowa City and Sioux City.
