Troopers from the Iowa State Patrol have uncovered large quantities of drugs during four traffic stops in the last 10 days. The latest came Tuesday as officers discovered 138 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated 200-thousand dollars, during a stop on Interstate 35 in Clarke County. Two men from Texas were charged in the stop. Patrol spokesman, Sergeant Robert Hansen, says there’s no connection to the four stops. Another stop March 31st on I-35 in Cerro Gordo County netted 10 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated 450-thousand dollars. Hansen says drugs are found during stops throughout the year, but there may be more of these type of stops made during the warmer months, as trooper have more time to concentrate on stops. He can’t say if the recent stops have put a dent in the flow of drugs in the state.Hansen says they’ve delayed releasing information on the stops while they tried to see if they could trace the source of the drugs and make more arrests.
